Welcome to Madrid

Founded in 1725 by Cándido Remis, nephew of the wife of French chef Jean Botín (whose business was also located around the Plaza Mayor), the Guinness Book of Records recognizes it as the oldest restaurant in the world. Botín's long history is reflected in his presence in the works of writers such as Galdós (Fortunata y Jacinta, Misericordia), Hemingway (Fiesta), Graham Greene (Monseñor Quijote), Gómez de la Serna (Greguerías) or, currently, María Dueñas (El tiempo entre costuras).

The restaurant occupies all four floors of the building and preserves the original atmosphere of an inn, so much so that the house's wood-burning oven, which still roasts suckling pigs and lambs in the Castilian style on Calle Cuchilleros, is the same as that of 1725.

Currently, Botín (ranked by the prestigious magazine Forbes at number 3 on the list of the world's classic restaurants) is run by the fourth generation of the González family, successor to the founding family.

1725 GOURMET STORE

Following the success of the online store of the same name, Botín has opened the 1725 Gourmet store, opposite the restaurant, at number 10 Calle Cuchilleros, from which all of its delicatessen products can be purchased and orders placed via its website can be picked up.
