Welcome to Madrid

The Spanish and Argentinean national rugby sides will face each other on 26 August at the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium in the second edition of The Match, which is the official event of the centenary of the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER). This match will also serve as preparation for the Argentinean Pumas for its participation in the World Cup in France 2023.

The Match initiative, which offers the best rugby, held its first edition in May 2022 at the Metropolitano Stadium, where the Spanish national rugby side played against the Classic All Blacks. In 2023, the stadium will host the second edition, which will showcase the new talents that have taken over in the generational renewal in the ranks of the Lions.

On this occasion, Spain will face the Argentinean national side, which beat the All Blacks on New Zealand soil during the Rugby Championship, and beat England at its stadium in Twickenham during the last Autumn Window.  The selector of the Pumas,  Michael Cheika from Australia, has taken them to eighth position on the World Rugby ranking with 80.72 points.  The 2023 calendar for the Argentineans includes three Rugby Championship matches, a friendly against the Springboks and the World Cup in France.

This match, which will be played in August, coincides with the last one in which World Rugby allows friendly matches to be played in preparation for the World Cup.
