Welcome to Madrid

In the centre of Madrid, in Plaza de Jacinto Benavente, we find one of the city's cultural icons: Teatro Calderón de Madrid.

The building is much admired by passers-by and its façade has displayed the names of many of the country's greatest performers. It was designed by architect Eduardo Sánchez Eznarriaga, while the windows in the hall are the work of Maumejean and the paintings in the auditorium are by Demetrio Monteserín. It occupies part of the site where the Trinitarios Convent previously stood.

A year after it opened in 1917 it was taken over by the Centro de Hijos de Madrid, and began to be known as the Teatro del Centro. In 1927 its ownership and name changed again. It became the property of the Duke of the Infantado and its name changed to Teatro Calderón.

Since August 2015, SOM Produce is in charge of the management and programing of the completely renovated Teatro Calderón. The theater has a capacity for up to 1,011 people and has two amphitheaters and big spaces that can be used for all kinds of public and private events.
