Welcome to Madrid

This hermitage was built in the 13th century in honour of Santa María Magdalena and it is the oldest Mudejar temple in the Community of Madrid, as well as the only hermitage in this style that is fully preserved. Nowadays it is used as the chapel for Carabanchel cemetery.

The current building, built on a former Roman town dates back to between the 2nd and 3rd centuries and is in the Romanic-Mudejar style, with a rectangular layout and semi-circular masonry apse. Of its primitive 13th century layout, it conserves the header, tower and southern wall, in which the façade is located.
