The Ortega y Gasset Foundation, located in the Salamanca district, is a private institution devoted to cultural dissemination, training, debate and research in the area of Social Sciences and the Humanities.

Inspired by the spirit of its founder, as well as the role he played in society at that time, it was set up in 1978 by Soledad Ortega Spottorno.  In 2010, the José Ortega y Gasset Foundation merged with the Gregorio Marañón Foundation, giving rise to the FOM.

The Foundation carries out a wide variety of activities: post-graduate training, university studies for international students, training courses for Spanish teachers, applied research, consultancy and cooperation projects for development, publication of tests, PhD theses and studies, congresses, seminars, conferences, round tables, book presentations and exhibitions. Its activity also extends to other fields related to Health, Healthcare and Welfare.

The headquarters of the foundation is made up of two emblematic buildings.  The first one is a palace dating back to the beginning of the 20th century, which was opened as the headquarters of the Residencia de Señoritas (Women’s Residence). The second building is a paradigmatic work of 1930s rationalist architecture, designed by the architect, Carlos Arniches.  Both buildings have been declared as Sites of Cultural and Architectural Interest. Following its 2020 extension, the library has more than 80,000 volumes and houses the archives of  José Ortega y Gasset and Gregorio Marañón.

It also has a garden whose size and beauty are surprising.  On many occasions, it has been chosen as the location to shoot films and adverts, and the venue to hold annual corporate meetings, events for important firms, cultural and academic activities with leading personalities.

The Ortega-Marañón Cultural Space was opened on 27 January 2023, a new exhibition space consisting of three exhibition halls and an auditorium.   The exhibition part will revolve around the figures of Ortega, Marañón and the legacy of the Girls’ Residence, stringing together the terms of thought, science and woman. The objects on display include the manuscript of La rebelión de las masas(The Revolt of the Masses), and the first edition of the Revista de Occidente magazine.
