Greenhouse at the Arganzuela Crystal Palace

    Information

Greenhouse and botanical gardens with an area of 7100 square metres, located inside the former municipal slaughterhouse in the district of Arganzuela, built by architect Luis Bellido y González between 1908 and 1928.

In 1992 it was restored and regenerated for use as a greenhouse, taking its inspiration from the nineteenth century greenhouses to be found in parks in many cities across Europe such as Vienna and London, representative examples of 19th century Cast-Iron Architecture.

Today it houses 9000 species of plants presented as four distinct and separate biotopes, each with its own microclimate with four categories of plants: tropical flora, subtropical flora, succulents and cactaceae, and aquatic plants. It is also home to a many species of fish.
