    Information

Located on the ground floor of the Coliseum building, this legendary Madrid theatre has a history stretching back over 80 years. Built in the early 1930s, the premises have also been used as a cinema.

The Coliseum building was designed by architects Castro Fernández Shaw and Pedro Muguruza Otaño, at the initiative of musician and businessman Jacinto Guerrero. It is located on the central avenue of Gran Vía in Madrid. Its interior contains striking decorative elements such as stained glass, allegorical paintings of Castile and Valencia in the theatre hall and foyer, and copper light fittings featuring motifs of traditional Spanish musical instruments. All of the elements have been preserved over time. In fact, the building is considered a ‘Site of Cultural Interest’ and enjoys special protection for both its structure –turn of the century Art Deco architecture– and its contents.

Since the outset it has been used for theatrical performances as well as film screenings.

It has now been completely renovated, but its special features have been preserved and its facilities have been improved to enable it to host major musical productions.

Musicals hosted by the theatre include My Fair Lady (starring José Sacristán, 2003), Cats (2003), Beauty and the Beast (2008), The Producers (2006), Saturday Night Fever (2009), Chicago (starring Natalia Millán and Manuel Bandera, which premiered in November 2009), Hair (2011) and Hoy no me puedo levantar (2013).
