The dancer and choreographer Luz Arcas, founder of La Phármaco contemporary dance company, is premièring a modern dance and flamenco piece that reflects on the animal and human body as a work tool in the Community of Madrid on 15 and 16 April in the Green Hall (Sala Verde) at Teatros del Canal.

Premièred at the last Flamenco Biennial in Seville, the show’s origins are rooted in Malaga and Andalusian folklore through primitive flamenco songs, such as country the jondos and  bugles from popular festivities, which are joined by experimental percussion. These palos are sung by Francisco Javier Sánchez Bandera, Bonela Hijo, from Malaga who is accompanied by Bonela Chico on the guitar, Carlos González on percussion and Abraham Romero on the bugle.

In light of the work of animals on the land, Arcas delves into the work as a hopper and submissive element to offer an anthropological look of the movement and the scene based on history and traditions.   The show incorporates numbers close to the performance that includes full nudes. 

Born in Malaga in 1983, Luz Arcas is a choreographer and flamenco dancer who studied Performance and Choreography at the María de Ávila Dance Conservatory in Madrid and Stage Management at the Higher School of Dramatic Art in Madrid. In 2009, she founded La Phármaco, a group with which she mixes all of the stage languages in the same discourse, featuring dance.  Her productions include El libro de los venenos, El monstruo de las dos espaldas, Antes fue siempre fuego and Sed erosiona.

During her career, Arcas has won many awards, such as the Critics’ Eye Dance Prize 2015, the Lorca Prize 2015 for the Best Female Dance Performance, the Injuve Prize 2009 or the  Malaga Creates Prize 2009. She was also finalist in the Best Female Dancer category at the Max Awards 2017.
